The Vehicle
The 2014 vehicle produced by The University of Adelaide Motorsport Team, designated ADL14, will build on 13 years of successful design. The evolutionary design methodology used for 2014 builds on the successes of the past whilst constantly improving the vehicle. The vehicle design set out with a firm focus of increasing vehicle reliability, performance and ergonomics in order to maximise the competitive potential of the vehicle.
The Formula SAE competition dictates a vehicle that is light weight and reliable whilst maintaining a constant high level of performance. ADL-14 will weigh an estimated 230kg when complete, and has been designed for accelerations of up to two g’s in both a straight line and cornering.
The Yamaha R6 engine package has been retained, with improvements made to increase reliability and performance. The custom dry sump has been evolved to ensure adequate lubrication of the engine increasing the reliability of the package.
